According to some estimates, about 20,000 jobs in Slovakia could be at risk if the trade war with the United States escalates. This was stated by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in his address at the Yerevan Dialogue 2025 international forum Monday in the Armenian capital.
Fico emphasized that the automotive industry is the backbone of the Slovak economy. That is why they need to intensify trade relations with countries interested in free trade and diversify the country’s export destinations, the Slovak premier emphasized.
According to him, Slovakia is trying to build new partnership relations in its foreign policy. Fico said he visits many countries and do his best to invest in relations with the country’s partners in Asia, Africa, or South America.
Fico said they are raising their relations with South Korea and China to the level of strategic partnership, and are working to strengthen relations with India, Indonesia, Japan, and Vietnam.
According to Robert Fico, Slovakia, as a small, open and export-oriented economy, is dissatisfied with trade wars and unfair trade practices.
