Azerbaijan, by firing on peaceful settlements in Syunik Province, is attempting to distract Armenia from the peace agenda. Artur Hovhannisyan, secretary of the ruling majority Civil Contract Faction of the National Assembly of Armenia, stated this during Friday’s press briefings at the NA.

Hovhannisyan assured, however, that Armenia will not give in to these provocations and will not back away from its peace agenda.

Reflecting on the Azerbaijani shooting in the direction of Khoznavar village in Syunik Province in recent days, the ruling force MP noted that Armenia had repeatedly expressed its official position.

“Yerevan reflects on practically all incidents taking place in the country's border zones. We [i.e. Armenia] will continue to advance our peace agenda. We have also proposed that Azerbaijan conduct bilateral monitoring in the border zone, study these incidents, and find out which side is provoking them and how it is happening. We will continue to work in this direction. The Republic of Armenia will not give in to these provocations and will not back away from its peace agenda. We are committed to the peace agenda and also have the support of the international community [in this regard]," Hovhannisyan said.
