Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received the Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE), Alain Berset, who has arrived in Armenia on an official visit, the PM’s office informs.
Pashinyan lauded Armenia’s cooperation with the CoE, and highlighted the latter’s role in the strengthening of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. Also, the premier thanked the CoE for its continued support for the democratic reforms being implemented in Armenia.
Secretary General Alain Berset, in turn, reaffirmed the CoE’s readiness to continue close cooperation with the government of Armenia and to support initiatives aimed at the development of democratic institutions and the protection of human rights in the country. Also, congratulated PM Pashinyan on the fact that the European Community Summit and the 18th Conference of the Parties (COP18) to the UN Convention on Biodiversity will be held in Armenia in 2026, describing it as evidence of Armenia’s growing international standing.
At the ensuing meeting, matters on the agenda of Armenia-CoE cooperation were discussed, as well as prospects for expanding joint programs in democracy and the rule of law.
The interlocutors exchanged views also on regional developments and ensuring stability.
