In essence, we have started relations with Turkey from zero point, in fact, this is an opportunity to establish new relations, and this comes from the interests of our countries. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this at a meeting with Turkey's Armenian community prior to his meeting with Erdogan.

"As a result of discussions in 2021-2022, we came to the following conclusion: if we take up this agenda, we must believe that it is possible and feasible, otherwise it will turn out that we deceive ourselves, we give the wrong message to our public, we give the wrong message to our international partners, we give the wrong message to Turkey, and this is already a very bad start. So we have to believe that this is a feasible task," he added.

According to him, the current process actually started with the first meeting with Turkish President Erdogan in Prague in 2022, after which the dialog of special representatives started between Armenia and Turkey, followed by active contacts between foreign ministers.

"Last year I had a meeting with the President of Turkey in New York. We had several phone conversations during this time, and of course this is a very important milestone. 

What has changed in the relations between Armenia and Turkey?

 A very significant thing, because a few years ago, if we needed to clarify Turkey's position on this or that issue, or if Turkey wanted to clarify Armenia's position on this or that issue, both sides had to try to do it through third countries.

I think it is important that we have had direct contacts with Turkey for quite a long time, and this is a necessary and important condition for us to try to form certain agendas and have discussions. I do not mean only those meetings that are held at the bilateral level. Unlike in the previous period, our contacts with Turkey are very intense now. 

Our discussions will have a certain influence on the development of future events and will give a new impetus to the Armenian-Turkish relations.

We are obliged to formulate these relations as interstate relations between Armenia and Turkey, although in public we continue to speak about Armenian-Turkish relations," Pashinyan noted.
