Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has not only chosen replacements in his chain of military command in case they are killed in Israeli strikes, he has also named three high-ranking clerics to replace him if he too is killed, The New York Times reports.

Fearing assassination, Ali Khamenei mostly communicates with his commanders through a trusted aide, having suspended electronic communication to make him harder to find, three Iranian officials said.
