The Kremlin has denied some allegations that Russia has failed to properly support Iran, and said that such statements are aimed at spoiling relations between Moscow and Tehran, Interfax reports.

“Now many want to add fuel to the fire in order to spoil the partnership relations between Moscow and Tehran,” said Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. “Russia has indeed supported Iran with its clear position. And, of course, we intend to further develop our relations with Iran.”

And regarding various discussions about Russia’s position on the Israeli and American strikes on Iran and the parallels with the situation in Syria following the fall of former president Bashar Al Assad, the Kremlin spokesman said: “Yes, of course, these discussions have been and will be; they are inevitable.”

Earlier, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei had stated that Iran, as a country with a strategic partnership agreement with Russia, had clear expectations and a position regarding Moscow's active role, both at the multilateral level—in particular, at the UN Security Council—and at the regional level.
