We have a very visible and significant growth in the tourism sector in May. My family and I have felt the physical expression of that growth. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government.

“Imagine that finding a hotel in Goris [city of Armenia’s southern Syunik Province] is quite problematic in the conditions when Goris has quite a leading position in Armenia with its hotel economy after [capital] Yerevan and Gyumri. If not the third, then it has at least the fourth, fifth hotel economy,” Pashinyan said and emphasized that this is the result of the fact that very large investments have been made in Goris under the tourism infrastructure program of Armenia.

“Of course, our partners in the private sector have also responded; there are already quite good hotels in Goris,” he added, in particular.

Pashinyan noted that he has been in Armenia’s southernmost Meghri city many times is, but he never spent the night there in the capacity of prime minister because there was no suitable hotel where it would be possible to stay with the delegation.

“This year is the first time that I have spent the night in Meghri because there is a newly opened hotel there. These are signals that we must present correctly, and I believe they are important signals,” the Armenian PM said, and expressed gratitude to all those people whose work is leading to new indicators of economic activity in Armenia.
