Armenia may have a new discussion with Azerbaijan in the near future. Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan announced this during a press briefing after Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government.

“The Armenian side is positive. Considering that we are ready to sign the peace treaty [with Azerbaijan], we will be in favor of holding such a meeting,” Kostanyan added.

“The last discussion, which you are all certainly aware of, is the meeting held between the leaders of the two countries in Tirana. We believe that in the near future it will be possible to have new discussions with the Azerbaijani side.

It remains a matter of principle for Armenia that [regional] communications shall be under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia, and that Armenia’s sovereignty over these roads shall be protected,” said the deputy FM.

And when asked whether Turkey was ready to try to bring Azerbaijan into a constructive arena as well, Kostanyan replied: "I believe that it is in the vital interests of the Turkish side also the opening of communications in our region. We hope that the arrangements that have been made will be brought to fruition, and we constantly express our position on this, both during closed meetings and certainly in a public way."
