President Donald Trump told Fox News that he could lift the US sanctions on Iran if the latter behaves peacefully and cooperates with Washington.

"If they [i.e. Iran] can be peaceful, and if they can join us, they are not going to do any more harm, I would take the sanctions off," Trump said.

"You get more sometimes with honey than you do with vinegar," the US president said, and added that easing sanctions would be of great importance to Tehran.

He said Iran was exhausted by the latest Israeli and US strikes, and predicted that its nuclear activities would be temporarily suspended.

"The last thing they [i.e. Iran] want to do right now is think about nuclear," Trump said.
