Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, the press service of the Armenian government reports.

During the meeting issues related to the agenda of Armenia-European Union relations, strengthening of democratic institutions, the rule of law, and possibilities of deepening cooperation in the sphere of governance reforms were discussed.

Prime Minister Pashinyan thanked the EU for its constant support to Armenia and emphasized the Armenian government's commitment to strengthening democracy and peace.

The EU High Representative noted that Armenia and the European Union have never been closer to each other than now. In her words, the European Union is ready to further deepen the partnership in all directions.

Kaja Kallas noted the Armenia-EU-US trilateral statement signed in Brussels on April 5, 2024 as an important milestone in strengthening the strategic cooperation of Armenia with its European and Western partners. According to her, it served as a basis for a new level of political dialogue.

Kallas praised the Armenian government’s commitment to democratic reforms, considering them to be of vital importance not only within the country but also as a basis for external partnerships. She stressed that these values must be protected, especially in the face of hybrid threats, disinformation, and attempts to interfere in the country’s internal affairs. Kaja Kallas stressed that the EU is ready to stand by Armenia, supporting the country’s resilience.

During the meeting, they also exchanged views on the visa liberalization process. Both sides emphasized that significant progress had been made in this area recently.

The sides touched upon the regional situation and the peace process. The EU High Representative noted that Brussels notes with satisfaction the positive progress recorded during the Armenia-Azerbaijan bilateral talks, which can serve as a basis for the establishment of stability and peace in the region.
