Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov commented on the arrest of Russian journalists in Azerbaijan.

“The detention of Russian journalists does not correspond to the generally accepted rules and spirit of relations between Moscow and Baku,” Peskov said.

He added that the Kremlin expects these journalists to be released soon, after direct negotiations.

The arrest of these journalists from the Russian media outlets Sputnik Azerbaijan and Ruptly was reported Monday.

Azerbaijan has called them “FSB [i.e. the Russian Federal Security Service] agents.”
