The criminal proceedings against former President Serzh Sargsyan have been sent to court, informs the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia.

The investigation conducted in the criminal proceedings examined by the Anti-Corruption Committee revealed that Sargsyan, having held the positions of Minister of Defense, Prime Minister, President, and then again Prime Minister of Armenia from 2000 to 2018, used his official position to facilitate the involvement of M. B., who is in close relations with him, and the organizations belonging to him, in the establishment of a bitumen plant in Surenavan village of Ararat Province, to meet the needs of Armenia with foreign investments.

During the investigation, Sargsyan was charged with taking a large bribe and illegally participating in entrepreneurial activities.

The investigation in the criminal proceedings has been completed, and the materials of the proceedings, along with the indictment, have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia.
