A no-confidence vote in European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be held on July 10, several anonymous sources inform, reports Politico.

The initiative to launch a no-confidence vote against von der Leyen belongs to Romanian politician Gheorghe Piperea, the BBC reports. The reason was the European Commission's declining to publicize von der Leyen's correspondence with the head of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer in 2021, when the European Union was discussing the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines. In mid-May 2025, the court annulled the European Commission's aforesaid decision.

The aforementioned vote will be symbolic, and most political groups have already announced that they will not support a no-confidence vote against Ursula von der Leyen.

The last time a vote of no confidence in the President of the European Commission was attempted was in 2014. At that time, the European Parliament rejected a vote of no confidence in von der Leyen's predecessor, Jean-Claude Juncker.
