Nationalist IYI (Good) Party leader, MP Musavat Dervisoglu has submitted a bill to the Turkish parliament.

The bill proposes to rename the Alican checkpoint on Turkey's border with Armenia after Talaat Pasha, Ermenihaber.am reports.

The bill was endorsed by 28 Turkish lawmakers.

Talaat Pasha was one of the main planners of the Armenian Genocide.

The aforesaid bill states a follows: "This name change is not just a change of sign; it is a manifestation of the will of the Turkish people to stand up for their own history, heroes and memory, because peoples who forget their national heroes are forgotten over the course of time. The renaming of the Alican border crossing point after Talaat Pasha means at the same time that the people, standing firm against the enemy, imprint their historical identity on their own borders."

Also, it was emphasized that this name change will be of great importance both for instilling historical awareness in the younger generations of the Turkish people, and for reminding of the historical continuity and "honorable past" of the Turkish state.
