According to the initial statements by the Iranian ambassador to Armenia, the Iranian authorities have been provided with information indicating the possibility of some drones entering Iran from the territory of its northern neighbor, Azerbaijan, Iranian media report.

This information was enough for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is in direct contact with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, to demand a thorough investigation and an official report on this issue. Baku's official response, however, was a complete denial of these accusations.

But it seems that this position could not alleviate all the concerns of the Iranian authorities, since both field data and the diplomatic trends recorded in recent years in relations between Azerbaijan and Israel indicate a deep and strategic connection that cannot be ignored when analyzing this event.

First, the official opening of the Azerbaijani embassy in Israel, which took place after three decades and was immediately supplemented by the opening of the Israeli embassy in Ashgabat, just a few kilometers from Iran’s eastern border. These diplomatic moves are a clear sign of Tel Aviv’s interregional coordination near Iran’s borders.

Over the past decade, Israel has sought to establish itself as a military, intelligence, and economic partner of Azerbaijan. And this cooperation culminated in the Second Karabakh War in 2020, when Israeli drones played a key role in Baku’s victory.

On the other hand, the economic interdependence between the two entities is also significant. Azerbaijan is one of Israel’s main energy suppliers, and, in turn, it is one of the largest recipients of advanced military equipment and surveillance technology from Tel Aviv.

In this context, if the theory of Israel’s use of Azerbaijani territory for reconnaissance or operational purposes to attack Iran is confirmed, even indirectly, then Tehran will be forced to review the security measures on its northern borders and reconsider the future of its relations with Baku.

There is no doubt that continuing on this path will not be without losses for Azerbaijan. To conclude, it should be emphasized that if Azerbaijan’s role in Israel’s aggression against Iran is proved, Tehran will be forced to clarify its relations with Baku once and for all, Iranian media added.
