Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan on Monday participated in and delivered remarks at the Special Session of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute on the Review of the Amendments on the Crime of Aggression, in New York, Armenian News-NEWS.am is informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

In his remarks, Abisoghomonyan emphasized the consistent support of Armenia for international legal mechanisms to prevent grave violations of international law and ensure accountability. In this vein, the imperative for robust mechanisms for early warning, early action and the responsibility to protect was underscored.

The Armenian deputy FM noted that the aforesaid special session, along with the preceding consultations, presents a valuable opportunity to reflect on the achievements and steps towards preventing the unlawful use of force, as defined under the mandate of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Also, Abisoghomonyan reiterated the commitment of Armenia to the continuation of dialogue aimed at fostering shared understanding, strengthening the legal framework and ensuring further progress, rooted in international law and widely endorsed by the global community.

The Armenian deputy FM further emphasized that any evolution of the ICC’s jurisdiction and practice must be guided by the foundational principles of the Rome Statute and collective commitment to prevent the most serious crimes of concern to the international community.
