Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin does not know whether reports about Donald Trump's threats to “bomb” Moscow and Beijing are a fake or not.
"Whether it is a fake or not - we don't know that either. There are a lot of fakes now, often there are a lot more fakes than true information. We always proceed from this when we analyze this or that news," Peskov told reporters.
According to him, Moscow is calm about the harsh rhetoric of the United States. “First of all, Trump in general has a rather tough style in what phrases he uses,” the Kremlin spokesman emphasized.
Peskov added that despite such statements, Russia expects to continue dialog with Washington and work to restore bilateral relations. "‘We expect to continue our dialog with Washington and our line to mend the riddled bilateral relations.’"
The spokesman also noted that there are no fundamental disagreements between Moscow and Washington on resolving the situation around Ukraine. "There are no disagreements here. There is a desire to really solve the problem by political and diplomatic means and to do it very quickly," Peskov said when asked about the prospects for negotiations.
Earlier, CNN, citing audio recordings in the possession of journalists Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf, reported that Trump told a private meeting with major donors last year that he once tried to dissuade Russian President Vladimir Putin from invading Ukraine by threatening to “bomb the hell out of Moscow.” In the same conversation, Trump said he similarly allegedly “put Chinese President Xi Jinping in his place” by threatening to bomb Beijing if China attacks Taiwan. “He thought I was crazy,” Trump said of Xi Jinping. - But we never had a problem."
