A scandalous video showing peaches being dyed at a Georgian food market, which went viral on Georgian social media, requires an immediate response from the relevant authorities, as stated by the Georgian National Food Agency.

The video, which appeared online on July 8, shows a man spraying peaches with dye to make them look riper and more marketable. It is unknown how safe the dye is for human consumption, according to Sputnik Georgia.

“This is a case of deliberate food contamination. The agency has already contacted the relevant law enforcement agencies,” the statement said.

The agency constantly checks fruit and vegetables at consumer markets, conducts monitoring, and takes samples for various indicators—pesticides, heavy metals, radionuclides—for examination.
