The US State Department has responded to reports that the administration of US President Donald Trump has presented Armenia and Azerbaijan with a proposal to unblock communications in the South Caucasus.

“The United States supports efforts to strengthen peace and stability in the South Caucasus. We have no information to share regarding press reports,” a State Department spokesperson said, according to Armenpress.

Earlier, Carnegie analyst Olesya Vardanyan, citing two foreign diplomats, noted that the administration of US President Donald Trump had presented Yerevan and Baku with a proposal for a road connecting Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan through Armenian territory.

According to these sources, the American proposal is similar to the version circulated by the European Union several years ago and based on a plan agreed between Russia and Georgia after the 2008 war. Under this plan, the parties planned to transfer control of routes passing through the disputed regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to an independent Swiss company, which would then undertake to pass on logistical data to all interested parties.
