Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who has been attacking the Armenian Apostolic Church, has betrayed Armenia's interests and continues to carry out a foreign agenda to destroy the national identity, Armenian-Syrian historian Gerard Raisyan told RIA Novosti.

“None of the ordinary Armenians expected that the prime minister, who had sworn allegiance to the people, would go so far as to capitulate in such a shameful manner, effectively betraying the interests of the country and becoming a tool of foreign influence,” Raisyan said.

According to the historian, what is happening today is only the outer shell of a much deeper strategy.

“The Armenian prime minister has become involved in the implementation of a Turkish-Azerbaijani plan aimed at reviving the neo-Ottoman dream of uniting the Turkic peoples into a single geostrategic space stretching from Turkey to China,” he explained.

The historian suggested that it was this idea that led to the genocide of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey in 1915, the seizure of their lands, and their forced expulsion from their homeland.

In his opinion, Armenia has historically stood in the way of the neo-Ottoman project and has therefore become its main victim. “I am convinced that actions of this kind are not the initiative of the authorities themselves, but the implementation of external scenarios aimed not only at attacking the Armenian Apostolic Church, but also at destroying national unity, historical memory, and the principled position of Armenians in defending their identity,” Raisyan noted.
