The monsoon season has been ongoing in Pakistan since late June, with at least 279 people killed and 676 injured so far in heavy rains and related incidents, according to the country National Disaster Management Authority.

More than 1,500 buildings have been damaged and hundreds of people have been forced to evacuate.

Significant damage has been done to livestock and agriculture.

The eastern province of Punjab has suffered the most losses, with 151 dead and 536 injured, according to the report. The northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 64 deaths and 80 injuries. Casualties have also been reported from Sindh, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan provinces.

Pakistani authorities are making efforts to save lives and minimize damage caused by the elements.

Meteorologists say the heavy rains will continue in the coming days.
