About 300,000 people from both sides have become refugees as a result of the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet  said.

"There are many casualties and injuries as a result of the combat operations. In total, there are about 300,000 refugees from both sides—140,000 from Cambodia and another 160,000 from Thailand," it was said at the news conference after the Thai-Cambodian talks in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

Relations between Cambodia and Thailand have deteriorated ever since an armed incident on May 28. That day, Thai soldiers opened fire on a Cambodian military position located in the disputed territory between the Cambodian province of Preah Vihear and the Thai province of Ubon Ratchathani, in Techo Morakot village in Choam Ksan District. One Cambodian soldier was killed and several others were injured in the incident.
