Cambodian forces have violated the border ceasefire again, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Thailand noted in a statement issued on Wednesday.

“In the late evening of 29 July 2025, less than 24 hours after a ceasefire agreement was reached between Thailand and Cambodia, Thai military positions in Phu Makua, Si Sa Ket Province, came under attack by small arms fire and grenade assaults launched by Cambodian forces. The attack continued into the morning of 30 July 2025,” the Thai MFA said.

The statement added that such an “act of aggression” is “once again a clear violation” of the ceasefire agreement by the Cambodian military.

Also, Thailand called on Cambodia to “immediately cease” the attacks and return to full compliance with previously reached ceasefire agreements.

Relations between Cambodia and Thailand have deteriorated ever since an armed incident on May 28. That day, Thai soldiers opened fire on a Cambodian military position located in the disputed territory between the Cambodian province of Preah Vihear and the Thai province of Ubon Ratchathani, in Techo Morakot village in Choam Ksan District. One Cambodian soldier was killed and several others were injured in the incident. And since July 24, armed clashes have erupted in border areas, as well as around several temples. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds injured in the tensions on both sides.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Monday announced a ceasefire between Bangkok and Phnom Penh following talks in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur between Acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. The ceasefire for the border areas between Thailand and Cambodia took effect after five days of armed clashes. On Tuesday, however, the Thai army accused Cambodia of violating the ceasefire, but Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense rejected the accusations.
