According to data from the US Department of the Treasury compiled by AFP, the United States collected more revenue from tariffs in the first six months of 2025 than in the entire year of 2024.

According to the latest monthly data released on Wednesday, tariff revenues at the end of June totaled more than $87 billion, compared to $79 billion collected for the entire year of 2024.

After returning to the White House, US President Donald Trump tore up the post-World War II economic policy program aimed at supporting free trade, imposing tariffs on trading partners and on certain products such as steel.

The US subsequently concluded agreements with a number of countries under which significantly higher tariffs will apply than previously, but for the most part they will also be significantly lower than the highest rates Trump threatened to impose.

The previous peak in tariffs was recorded in 2022 and amounted to $98 billion. In June, tariff revenues amounted to $26.6 billion, almost four times the amount collected in January.
