US President Donald Trump announced today that the United States and Mexico have agreed to postpone the deadline for concluding a trade deal for another 90 days.

The announcement was made one day before higher, so-called reciprocal tariffs on imports from dozens of countries were due to take effect.

“The difficulties with the Mexico deal are somewhat different from the difficulties with other countries, both because of border issues and because of assets,” Trump said on social media platform Truth Social, adding that he had just finished a phone call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

“The US will continue to impose a 25% tariff on fentanyl, a 25% tariff on cars, and a 50% tariff on steel, aluminum, and copper,” he added.
