During a meeting Friday with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the talks with Ukraine that took place in Turkey in July.

According to Russian news agencies, Putin gave an overall positive assessment of these talks between the delegations in Istanbul, and said that negotiations are always in demand.

"As for any disappointment on the part of anyone, all disappointments arise from excessive expectations. In order to approach the matter pacifically, we need to have detailed conversations... and not publicly, but calmly, in the silence of the negotiation process," Putin said, referring to US President Donald Trump’s disappointment with the course of these talks.

Putin claimed that it was precisely in order to conduct negotiations, as he himself put it, "in silence" that the Russian side proposed the creation of three working groups that would work online after the last meeting in Istanbul.

"In general, the Ukrainian side's response was positive, we agreed that we can hold such talks without video cameras and without any political noise, in a calm manner, and seek a compromise," the Russian president said.

 Also, according to Russian news agencies, Putin recalled that Russia's objectives and conditions for Ukraine, which he had stated in June 2024, remain in force. At that time, he had demanded the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Russian-occupied parts of the Donetsk People's Republic, the Luhansk People's Republic and the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Regions, as well as non-aligned and non-nuclear status for Ukraine.
