The Special Operations Forces (SOF) of the Armed Forces of Belarus are creating a new airborne assault brigade in the Gomel region bordering Ukraine. This was announced Friday by the commander of the SOF, Major General Vadim Denisenko, BelTA reports.
“Today, an antiaircraft missile regiment has joined the SOF. We are currently in the final stages, and a rocket artillery regiment will also be created this year; it is already 70 percent ready. The task of creating a command brigade is now being worked out,” Denisenko said.
“In addition, a decision was made to strengthen the southern sector. Today, this is, so to speak, the most troubled direction, which keeps us all in good shape. Therefore, a decision was made to create a separate airborne assault brigade there. And today we have already started the formation of this brigade; one of the battalions has already been formed,” Denisenko added.
