Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, who is on a working visit to Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, on Monday met with Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref on the sidelines of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

At the start of the meeting, the parties exchanged greetings and emphasized the continuous development of good-neighborly relations and multi-sectoral cooperation between the two countries—and which is based on the age-old friendship of the two peoples.

During the talk, special attention was paid to the prospects for expanding cooperation in economy, energy, infrastructure, high tech, and several other domains. President Khachaturyan lauded the work being carried out by an Iranian organization on Armenia’s Meghri-Kajaran section of the North-South road corridor, and highlighted its importance in the development of regional communications.

The parties exchanged views also on the general regional situation and developments, and stressed the strengthening of the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence as the basis for stability and development for the entire region.
