The city of Isesaki, northwest of capital Tokyo, recorded a record 41.8 degrees Celsius in the shade, the highest since the country began systematic weather observations in the late 19th century, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

And in downtown Tokyo, the temperature in the shade rose to almost 37 degrees Celsius at noon local time. It is the fourth day in a row that it has exceeded 35 degrees Celsius.
