More than 9,500 people were hospitalized in Japan, from July 28 to August 3, due to heatstroke, and 18 of them died, said the fire service, which also provides emergency services in the country.

Of those more than 9,500 people, 225 were hospitalized in severe condition for more than three weeks. Nearly 58% of those who suffered from heatstroke were over 65.

Japan has been experiencing extremely hot weather since June.
