The Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia writes as follows, in particular. A meeting is planned in Washington at the end of this week between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and the US President [Donald Trump]. As reported by American media and analysts, the parties are preparing to sign a memorandum of understanding aimed at establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Despite the fact that Aliyev continues to put forward his well-known preconditions, the [Armenian] authorities’ sources tell the Zhoghovurd daily that Nikol Pashinyan is ready for peace at this phase without any preconditions. The prime minister emphasized during discussions that were held within the team that “a certain document will most likely be signed.”
According to the same sources, the US has proposed an option for the solution of the Syunik [Province of Armenia] issue, which assumes a delegated model without the wording of a “corridor,” but presumably with certain elements of overseeing.
(…) the Armenian prime minister prefers to follow the path of peace without demands, with one objective: to show a document signed on international platforms ahead of the [next Armenian parliamentary] elections, on which the word “peace” will be written.
(…). And in Washington, most likely, a document will be signed that will be presented as “historic progress.”
