At least 60 people are missing in floods and landslides in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, PTI reports.

Eleven Indian soldiers are among the missing.

Seventy people were rescued from the disaster zones overnight.

The worst-hit areas were Uttarakshi town and Dharali village, which were hit twice in a row by sudden heavy rains and the resulting landslides and floods.

Rescue operations are underway in Uttarakhand, but they becoming difficult due the ongoing rains.

Officials previously reported four deaths, but do not rule out that the death toll could rise due to the large-scale impact of this natural disaster in Dharali.

In the affected areas, houses and roads were destroyed, and power and communication lines were damaged.

Due to incessant rains in Uttarakhand, the water level in several major rivers of the state has exceeded the danger mark.

The authorities are closely monitoring the situation.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
