Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots of the Russian State Duma, has sharply criticized Armenia's participation in Friday’s negotiations in Washington DC, and called it the "most disgraceful" side of the upcoming deal.

"While the whole world is making predictions over a coffee cup about the meeting between [Russian President Vladimir] Putin and [US President Donald] Trump, two loyal friends of Russia—[Azerbaijani President] Ilham Aliyev and [Armenian PM] Nikol Pashinyan—have rushed to Washington to conclude a deal under the supervision of the US president.

It is not entirely clear whether they will sign the so-called peace treaty or will be limited to a temporary memorandum. However, there is no need to be a fortune teller to realize that it’s about a deal as a result of which America comes to the region, and Russia and Iran will have to come to terms with it.

Regardless of whether or not this is included in the text of any agreement, the ‘and’ on the issue of the famous Zangezur corridor and its overseeing will be put to an end. Through Pashinyan, Turkey will pave a direct route through the territory of Armenia to Azerbaijan, the Caspian Sea and Central Asia. And along with that, NATO and the United States, which will thus receive their bonus," Zatulin wrote on Telegram.
