UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomes the signing of a joint declaration by Armenia and Azerbaijan, brokered by the United States, and considers it an important milestone in the normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan. This is stated in a statement distributed to journalists by the office of the head of the world organization.
"The Secretary-General welcomes the comprehensive joint declaration signed on Friday by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, together with US President Donald Trump, as an important milestone in the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Secretary-General welcomes the commitment of President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan to sustained dialogue and confidence-building, and recognizes President Trump's efforts in facilitating progress on this issue. The Secretary-General reaffirms the United Nations' strong support for all efforts to achieve lasting peace in the South Caucasus," the statement said.
