Washington plans to stop funding arms supplies to Ukraine, US Vice President JD Vance said in an interview with Fox News on Sunday.

“If European countries want to take the initiative and buy weapons from American manufacturers, we [i.e. the US] will not object. But we ourselves will not fund it anymore,” he said.

President Donald Trump’s administration has warned European allies that they should be prepared to “take a bigger role” in assisting Ukraine because this conflict is taking place in their backyard, Vance added.

Also, he stressed that the US was seeking to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, given the current situation on the line of contact and Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska slated for Friday.

Vance noted that during these talks, the US will try to find a mutually acceptable solution for both Moscow and Kyiv, but it is likely that both parties will ultimately be dissatisfied with it.

According to the US vice president, Trump is considering the possibility of imposing tariffs on China for buying Russian oil, but no specific decision has been made yet in that regard.
