PreferredAmerican musician, rhythm and blues creator Johnny Otis died in California. Singer, composer, drummer, producer, TV presenter, political activist Otis died at the age of 91, The Los Angeles Times reports.
Otis was born in the family of Greek immigrants. His real name was Ioannis Alexandres Veliotes. However, Otis was well-known for his choice to live his life as a member of the African-American community.
His greatest hit is “Harlem Nocturne” which he wrote in 1946.
In 1970s he left music, bought a farm and became a pastor in the city Sebastopol in California. Otis was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
