An explosion occurred at the U.S. Steel plant in Clairton, Pennsylvania, killing one person, injuring ten, and emergency services are searching for a missing worker, AP reports.

On August Monday, a powerful explosion occurred at the Clairton Coke Works plant in Pennsylvania, owned by U.S. Steel. As a result of this tragic incident, one person was killed, ten were injured, and one worker is considered missing.

The explosion occurred at around 10:51am local time. It caused a column of black smoke that was visible from different parts of the city. After that, a large-scale fire broke out, as a result of which two coking ovens of the plant were damaged.

Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, were called to the scene. One of the injured was pulled from the rubble several hours after the explosion. Ten people were taken to hospitals. Their condition was not immediately known.

The Clairton Coke Works is North America's largest coking plant, which produces coke, a fuel made from burning coal. This process releases toxic gases. Previous incidents at the plant have led to environmental issues and fines for violating environmental regulations.
