On August Tuesday and Wednesday, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan paid a visit to Iran, where he met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi; Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht-Ravanchi; Foreign Policy Advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader and Head of Iran Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, Kamal Kharrazi; Foreign Policy Advisor Ali-Akbar Velayati; and Political Advisor to the President of Iran, Mehdi Sanaei, informs the foreign ministry of Armenia.

During the meetings Vahan Kostanyan emphasized that Armenia highly values Iran’s consistent and public stance on the imperative of unconditional respect for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of the borders of Armenia, and reaffirmed that Armenia, in turn, takes into account Iran’s vital interests.

Also, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia commended Iran’s congratulations and support regarding the initialing of the “Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan,” as well as the recent progress aimed at the normalization of relations between the two countries and the establishment of peace in the region.

Reflecting on the joint declaration signed on August 8 in Washington DC by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States, Vahan Kostanyan stressed that the process of unblocking regional economic infrastructures will take place within the framework of full respect for the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, and reciprocity of the countries, and in accordance with the letter and spirit of the aforementioned declaration.

Also, views were exchanged on the positions of Armenia and Iran on the aforesaid process, and an agreement was reached to maintain continuous dialogue.

Upcoming high-level contacts were also discussed during the meetings of the deputy foreign minister of Armenia.
