A German Condor airline plane, which was en route from the Greek island of Corfu to Dusseldorf, Germany, caught fire shortly after takeoff, RTL television reports.
The Boeing 757-300 was carrying 263 passengers and eight crew members.
One of the plane's engines caught fire shortly after takeoff. The pilots decided to make an emergency landing in Brindisi, Italy, where the plane landed successfully.
According to airline representatives, the cause of the fire was a disruption in the engine's air supply.
Many of the passengers had to spend the night at the Brindisi airport, as there were no vacant rooms in the city's hotels.
The aforesaid airline has sent another plane to Italy to transport these passengers to Dusseldorf.
