Russian President Putin on Monday had a phone call with US President Donald Trump, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said, RT reports.

According to Ushakov, Putin and Trump expressed support for direct talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations.

"The Russian president warmly thanked the American leader for his hospitality during the meeting in Alaska. The conversation lasted about 40 minutes. Trump informed Putin about the talks with European leaders and [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy," Ushakov said.

He noted that Putin and Trump discussed the idea of raising the level of representatives of Russia and Ukraine for further direct talks.

Ushakov added that Putin and Trump agreed to closely communicate with each other on Ukrainian and other pressing matters on the international agenda.

The Russian presidential aide emphasized that the phone talk between Putin and Trump was sincere and constructive.
