Considering the increasing amount of transportation between our countries, we have reached an agreement on the construction of a second bridge on the Armenian-Iranian border. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this after his meeting with visiting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, on Tuesday in Yerevan.

According to Pashinyan, the most important project is the third power transmission line from Armenia to Iran. The PM noted that he discussed this matter with the Iranian president, too. And, according to him, the parties have a clear understanding that this project should be completed as soon as possible.

“Thanks to the commissioning of the third power transmission line, Armenia will be able to increase electricity supplies to Iran,” the Armenian premier noted.

Also, Pashinyan said that Armenia has set a strategic goal to increase the amount of trade with Iran, first to $1 billion, and then to $3 billion. Pashinyan assured that the parties have approached the $1 billion mark and are consistently working towards achieving the next goal. In this regard, the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union member states—including Armenia—and Iran, in his opinion, opens up new opportunities for the entrepreneurs of both countries.

Pashinyan stressed that, in parallel with the active political dialogue, cooperation with Iran includes many other domains such as economy, infrastructure, energy, health care, culture, and environmental protection.

“In each of them, we are discovering new horizons for ourselves year after year. A number of existing infrastructure projects between Armenia and Iran have already entered the practical phase, and these projects are of strategic importance to Armenia,” the premier added.

He named one of such strategically important projects the 32-kilometer section of the Kajaran-Agarak motorway, the construction of which the Armenian side has entrusted to an Iranian company. Pashinyan expressed confidence that this 32-kilometer motorway will be put into operation on time and the leaders of Armenia and Iran will be able to record another success of the two countries.

“Armenia attaches great importance to strategic relations with Iran. I am confident that thanks to the active efforts by our governments, we will be able to implement new joint programs for the benefit of our friendly peoples and countries," the Armenian premier concluded.
