Sophie Lagoutte has been appointed as the new French ambassador to Azerbaijan, the French embassy in Baku and the diplomat herself have announced on social media.

"It is a great honor for me to serve France, our interests and our compatriots as ambassador to Azerbaijan. I will carry out this mission, continuing the path of Anne Bouillon [i.e. the outgoing French ambassador to Azerbaijan]. Together with the team of the French embassy in Azerbaijan, I look forward to the further development of French-Azerbaijani relations in this region of strategic importance to our country and the European Union," Lagoutte noted.
