Russia is in favor of European guarantees for Ukraine’s security being truly reliable, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

According to him, Russia agrees that Ukraine’s security guarantees should be provided on an equal footing, with the participation of members of the UN Security Council.

“Regarding the reports about the wish by Great Britain, France, and Germany to develop collective security guarantees, we [i.e. Russia] are in favor of these guarantees being truly reliable,” Lavrov said at a joint press conference with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi.

The Russian FM noted that Moscow believes that in the guarantees for Ukraine, it is indispensable to focus on the developments achieved at the Istanbul talks in 2022.

"Here we have a very good example, which, by the way, concerns the initiative of the Ukrainian side itself, as was the case in April 2022 in Istanbul, when the Ukrainian negotiating team proposed the main principles of an agreement to cease hostilities and ensure a stable settlement. Among these principles was also Ukraine's declining to join NATO or any other military alliance, and the establishment of Ukraine's neutral and non-nuclear status," said the Russian FM.
