Members of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian parliament on Tuesday visited the Norduz checkpoint on the Armenian border as part of an inspection tour, ICANA news agency reports.

According to ICANA, about 2,000 passengers and 400-450 trucks pass through this checkpoint every day. And during the holidays, the number of passengers reaches 7,000-8,000 per day.

Every year, about 1 million tons of transit exports—weighing 50 thousand tons—are carried out through the Norduz checkpoint, but this figure can increase considerably with the development of infrastructure.

During the visit, members of the aforesaid Iranian parliamentary committee met with passengers and got familiarized with their problems and existing difficulties.

The chairman of this committee noted the need to make the Norduz checkpoint “smart,” develop infrastructure, and increase its capacity. Also, he instructed local officials to use civil defense resources to eliminate deficiencies at this checkpoint.
