On August 26, the People's Court of Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, publicly announced the verdict of the court of first instance in the bribery case of Liu Xintai, former deputy secretary of the Party leadership group and deputy chairman of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial People's Congress, CCTV reported. 

The defendant, Liu Xintai, was sentenced to death for bribery with a two-year reprieve, life deprivation of political rights, and confiscation of all personal property.

The property and interest obtained as a result of bribery were confiscated in accordance with the law and transferred to the state treasury. 

It was established that from 2003 to 2024, Liu Xintai used the benefits of his position as deputy secretary and county judge, as well as other advantageous conditions created by his power or status, to assist relevant departments and individuals in matters such as business operations, business contracts, and fund distribution, as well as illegally accepting property directly or through other means totaling more than 316 million yuan.

The Guilin Intermediate People's Court ruled that the actions of the defendant Liu Xintai constituted a crime related to bribery and should be punished in accordance with the law. The amount of bribes received by Liu Xintai was extremely large, causing particularly serious damage to the interests of the state and the people, the court ruled.
