Economist Hovhannes Gabrielyan, 38, aims to break a Guinness world record.
He will attempt to swim across the 74-kilometer length of Armenia’s Lake Sevan without any special means.
Gabrielyan is expected to be in the water for about 30 hours.
One of the organizers, Aram Manukyan, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that this swim is scheduled to start today at 4pm, from the beach of Karchaghbyur village, and finish tomorrow at around 6pm near Piruze beach.
“For the first time, I participated in the Russian ultramarathon in 2018, I swam from St. Petersburg to Kronstadt, 25 km. When I covered that distance in 7-8 hours, the thought occurred to me that I shall overcome the same test in my homeland, in Sevan, as I had dreamed about it since childhood,” Gabrielyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
He added that the economist’s sedentary work and passive lifestyle were having a bad effect on his health, which is why he started doing sports, swimming.
“Amateur competitions are often held in Russia, as there are many large and small lakes. Living there, I try not to miss the opportunity and participate in at least 60 percent of them, which enables me to be in good shape,” He said.
Gabrielyan noted that he hopes that he can serve as an example for many.
“A person of any age should do sports,” added Hovhannes Gabrielyan.
