We have recorded that the joint declaration adopted after the summit of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States in Washington on August 8 has confirmed the principles of respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction of the parties, on the basis of which it is planned to build communications between the two republics. Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), stated this during a press briefing Friday.

“These are precisely the fundamental provisions that were agreed upon two years before the Washington agreements, within the framework of the trilateral working group—co-chaired by the deputy prime ministers of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia—on the unblocking of transport links in the region,” Zakharova added.

“We do not have details about the so-called ‘Trump road.’ As far as we understand, the details still need to be agreed upon,” said Zakharova.

“Within the framework of the already noted trilateral working group, it actually became possible to reach concrete agreements on railway transit through Syunik Province of Armenia, including on the use of electronic customs control systems; in particular, navigation seals,” added the Russian MFA spox.

Their application is now being actively tested in our bilateral trade to accelerate the movement of goods. Therefore, taking into account the common territory of the EAEU [i.e. the Eurasian Economic Union] for us and Armenia, the extraterritorial regime could not be considered—even purely theoretically. We see how much false information is being thrown around. I believe this is aimed at discrediting the trilateral format with the participation of Russia, and has nothing to do with reality,” Zakharova concluded.
