Turkey’s FM Ahmet Davutoglu again threatened France, claiming that if the bill which criminalizes the denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide, is passed in France, Turkey will impose continuous sanctions against this country.    

In an interview with France 24, Davutoglu said he is hopeful that Turkey would not have to announce about these sanctions. “[But] Don’t think that Turkey will not make a sound if the bill is passed. There will be new sanctions, and they will continue until France changes its attitude,” Davutoglu said, claiming that the said bill runs counter to freedom of speech, IHA News Agency informs.       

To note, on December 22, 2011 the French National Assembly passed the bill that criminalizes the denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide. And on Monday, it is expected to be put to a vote in the French Senate. The law proposal sets a one-year prison sentence plus a 45-thousand-Euro fine for anyone who denies genocides.
