Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Thursday met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo, at the Kantei the official workplace of the prime minister of Japan.

Ishiba welcomed Pashinyan’s visit to Japan, and emphasized that it is a great opportunity for the steady development of Armenia-Japan relations and the deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation. He noted that Japan highly values the strengthening of friendly ties with Armenia and the implementing of joint initiatives across various sectors. Also, the Japanese PM welcomed the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and expressed hope that long-lasting and stable peace will be ensured in the region.

In turn, premier Pashinyan thanked for the warm hospitality, and stressed that Armenia is ready to give new impetus to Armenia-Japan cooperation. He noted that Armenia attaches great importance to expanding collaboration with Japan, including in the economic sector. He stressed that a bilateral business forum is planned soon, and it will truly contribute to the expansion of trade and economic ties. The PM expressed confidence that as a result, Japanese business investments in Armenia will grow significantly.

Also, the head of state highlighted the cooperation established between Armenia and Japan in disaster prevention, human resources development, infrastructure, promotion of small- and medium-sized enterprises and other domains over the past years. The premier highly appreciated Japan's engagement in Armenia over the years, including through development and technical assistance programs.

Nikol Pashinyan congratulated his Japanese colleague for successfully holding the World Expo 2025. At the same time, the PM expressed gratitude for the support provided by Japan to Armenia's participation in the exhibition. The parties underscored this platform as a unique opportunity to promote Armenia-Japan cooperation.

During the meeting, the main directions of Armenia-Japan cooperation were discussed: expansion of economic ties and investment cooperation, deepening of ties in education, science, culture, and tourism.

Views were exchanged on further steps to ensure regional peace and stability.

Also, an official dinner was held on behalf of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in honor of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
