MOSCOW. – Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents turned to their Russian counterpart to be a mediator in establishing humanitarian relations between the sides, Russian FM Sergei Lavrov said, commenting on the negotiations of presidents on Nagorno-Karabakh, RIA Novosty reports.

“Baku and Yerevan turned to Russia to be the initiator of such contacts, Russian President Dmitri Medvedev of course agreed,” Lavrov said.

Regarding results of the trilateral meeting of the Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Sochi, Lavrov stated that the three of them expressed necessity in establishing direct humanitarian, cultural and educational contacts between people.

Such contacts secure reestablishment and strengthening trust between the sides, and create most favorable atmosphere for making political decisions.

Besides, heads of Armenia and Azerbaijan expect the mediators to offer concrete procedures aiming to investigate incidents on the contact line.

“OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs have made a report on this regard depicting mechanisms of running investigation of the incidents,” Lavrov said.
